Concept

İşbank Private Banking is the private banking division of Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş., Turkey's first national bank; its client-facing brand is Privia (privia.com.tr, the Privia Hattı concierge line, the Privia Black credit card). It is not a separate legal entity but a division of the bank. Head of Private Banking: Tuba Tepret; sponsoring Deputy CEO: Suat E. Sözen (since 25 March 2022).

History and evolution

  • 26 August 1924 — founded on Atatürk's initiative with capital of TL 1m, including TL 250k personally from Atatürk; co-founder and first general manager Celal Bayar.
  • 1925 — Anadolu Sigorta established.
  • 1932 — Hamburg and Alexandria branches: the first Turkish bank with foreign branches.
  • 1935 — Şişecam founded.
  • 1982 — Turkey's first ATM ("Bankamatik", trademarked).
  • 1986 — IPO on Borsa Istanbul (BIST).
  • 1997 — Turkey's first internet branch.
  • 1998 — the Treasury's 12.3% stake sold publicly.
  • 2024 — centennial year: TİBAŞ 100th Year Foundation, TIBAS Ventures in Amsterdam.
  • 1 September 2026 — H. Cahit Çınar appointed 18th General Manager/CEO; Hakan Aran (CEO since 1 April 2021) stepped down.

Regulation

The parent bank is supervised by the BRSA/BDDK, the SPK/CMB and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey; it is a TMSF member and listed on BIST (ISCTR). On 8 March 2013 the Competition Board's "12 banks" cartel decision (deposit, loan and credit-card rate coordination in 2007–2011) fined İşbank among the 12 banks (TL 1.117bn in total); a 2019 Council of State appeal ruling reversed the decision, and the case was litigated for years. In 2020 the Ministry of Trade imposed a TL 110.11m fine for fee-practice violations; settled via uzlaşma at 50%, with TL 55.055m paid on 3 March 2021 (official KAP disclosure). In February 2026 the Competition Board opened a labour-market (no-poach) investigation into İşbank and other banks — ongoing. Political context: proposals to transfer the CHP-held Atatürk shares to the Treasury recurred periodically in 2018–2020; this is not a regulatory sanction.

Ownership (June 2026): the bank's employees' supplementary pension fund 38.66%; Atatürk Shares 28.09% (testamentarily represented by the CHP, dividends going to the Turkish Language and History Institutions); free float 33.25%.

Source of wealth

Typical source of funds: industrial and export-business families, professionals and executives, real estate; business owners via the integrated Co-private model; multi-generational wealth through Aile Fonu.

Who it serves

Wealthy Turkish families and business owners, senior executives and professionals, second- and third-generation heirs; entrepreneurs combining corporate and personal banking. Network: 13 dedicated PB branches (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Bodrum) plus 20 commercial branches with Co-private hybrid areas (2026).

Services

  • dedicated relationship manager and personalised portfolio planning;
  • PB-exclusive hedge-style private funds via İş Portföy ("Serbest Özel Fon", volume +54% in 2024);
  • Privia investment funds;
  • Privia bancassurance (Anadolu Sigorta / Anadolu Hayat);
  • Privia Hattı concierge;
  • "Aile Fonu" (Family Fund) — multi-generational wealth planning including the second and third generations; inheritance planning, will preparation and foundation (vakıf) establishment via expert referrals;
  • philanthropy advisory with Darüşşafaka and TEMA;
  • the Co-private model for business owners.

İşbank offers share-purchase credit secured by eligible portfolio assets. Initial equity is 50%; if it falls below 35%, the customer has two business days to restore the initial level or reduce the debt, after which the bank may sell collateral. This facility finances share purchases. A portfolio-backed loan for unrestricted cash use, and its terms, require separate agreement with the bank.

Strengths

  • scale: bank-only total assets TL 4,624.9bn (~US$108bn) at end-2025, 25.8m customers; consolidated group assets TL 6.01tn in H1 2026; self-described "Turkey's largest private bank" (corroborated: Garanti BBVA calls itself second);
  • investment infrastructure: İş Portföy AUM TL 1,418bn (~US$33bn) at end-2025, +85% YoY, 11.7% market share; İş Yatırım #3 in equity market share (11.1%, 2025);
  • recognition: Euromoney "Turkey's Best Bank for Private Banking" 2025 and 2026 (second consecutive year); Global Finance "Best Bank for Private Banking for Business Owners" (February 2026);
  • strong family and estate planning: Aile Fonu, wills, vakıf foundations, philanthropy.

Where it falls short

  • entry threshold not published, invitation-only service;
  • private-banking AUM and client counts are not disclosed separately;
  • the documented securities-backed facility finances share purchases; unrestricted-cash Lombard terms require separate agreement;
  • TMSF deposit insurance applies only at domestic branches; presence in sensitive jurisdictions warrants a separate check.

In sum: Privia is private banking inside a systemic Turkish bank with a century of history — strong investment and family practices, a closed entry threshold, and a predominantly Turkish regulatory and deposit-protection perimeter.

Who owns the bank?

As of June 2026: the employees' pension fund 38.66%, Atatürk Shares 28.09% (represented by the CHP, dividends to the language and history institutions), free float 33.25%.

Yes: "Aile Fonu" pools multi-generational wealth; will preparation, inheritance planning and vakıf foundation establishment are available via expert referrals.

What private banking awards does the bank hold?
