Concept
BBVA Private Banking is the private bank of Spain's BBVA group, reassembled in October 2026 under a single Global Wealth brand: Premium (€100k–500k), Private Banking (€500k–2m) and UHN Patrimonio (€2m+). Тип: a private bank of a universal group (BMAD/NYSE: BBVA) with a strong Latin American axis: nine markets and ~€200bn of unit assets. The group unit is led by Jaime Lázaro; the Swiss entity has been headed by David Conde since March 2026.
History and evolution
The Swiss bank has operated in Zurich for over 50 years (now BBVA SA) and in 2021 became the first traditional European bank to offer bitcoin and ether trading and custody to private clients. In April 2025 a third international private-banking hub opened in Madrid (after the US and Switzerland) for Latin American non-residents. The group backdrop of 2024–2026: the hostile Sabadell bid failed on 16 October 2025 (~25.3% acceptances against a 30% minimum), after which BBVA returned to buybacks and record dividends; 2025 profit was a record €10.5bn.
Spanish private-banking assets stand at €172.2bn with ~194,000 clients at mid-2026; the Swiss entity held CHF 6.25bn at end-2024 (+26.9%).
Regulation
- Banco de España / ECB, CNMV — Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A.;

- CNBV — BBVA México; SBS — BBVA Perú; local regulators in Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay;
- BRSA — Garanti BBVA (Turkey, BBVA's stake raised to ~89.8%);

Source of funds and compliance
The Swiss entity accepts non-residents and supports remote video onboarding and biometric onboarding (New Gen) for clients from 190+ countries; the standard source-of-funds file applies, plus CRS/FATCA. Dated episodes: a CNBV fine for BBVA México (~€179k, 2022, minor AML reporting inconsistencies) and a non-final Spanish AML (Law 10/2010) penalty of €13.1m against BBVA S.A., under appeal.

Strengths
- three international hubs for Latin American clients: Zurich, Miami, Madrid;
- published Global Wealth thresholds — rare transparency;
- the first traditional-bank digital-assets line in Switzerland (BTC/ETH since 2021);
- strong Latin American positions: "best private bank" in Colombia and Peru per The Banker.
Where it does not fit
- clients in Asia — the branches are wholesale-only, with no booking;
- those wanting a published Swiss booking minimum — it is undisclosed;
- fortunes below €500k for classic private banking;
- clients sensitive to crypto volatility inside the bank: the digital line is part of the offering.
BBVA Private Banking is a Spanish group with honest tiering and three international hubs for Latin America; after the failed Sabadell bid the focus is organic growth and capital returns.

Strategy
How did the Sabadell bid end?
In failure: on 16 October 2025 Sabadell shareholders tendered ~25.3% against a 30% minimum and the offer lapsed. BBVA responded with accelerated capital returns (a new €4.6bn buyback program) and a record interim dividend; 2025 profit was a record €10.5bn.
Does BBVA really offer crypto to private clients?
Yes: the Swiss entity BBVA SA has offered bitcoin and ether trading and custody since June 2021 — the first among traditional European banks. It is an option within private banking, not a separate crypto bank.
