Currenxie
Partner, Corporate & Commercial
Concept
Currenxie — Hong Kong fintech, founded in 2014 by Riccardo Mattuzzo and Ben Lo. Headquarters in Hong Kong. Public data shows it serves clients in90+ jurisdictions, processed overUS$30bnin payment volume. Global Account — core product: local account details in key currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, HKD, CNY, JPY, AUD, CAD, SGD, INR), integration with Amazon, Shopify, AliExpress and other marketplaces, SWIFT transfers and local payouts to 90+ countries without opening separate accounts in each jurisdiction.
Regulation
Multi-jurisdictional licensing stack
Currenxie holds regulatory approvals in five jurisdictions:
- Hong Kong— Money Service Operator under Customs & Excise Department (primary license);
- Canada— FINTRAC MSB registration;
- Australia— AUSTRAC MSB;
- South Africa— FSCA registration;
- UK— Small Payment Institution underFCA.
As of15 May 2026 revised HK MSO tariffs apply(per Amendment of Schedule 3 Notice 2026) — this affects account opening and maintenance costs for Hong Kong clients.
Cross-border focus as product axis
Currenxie architecture is optimized for marketplace sellers with Chinese suppliers. Direct integrations with Amazon Seller Central, Shopify and AliExpress provide advantage: receiving accounts are accepted as "seller local accounts," marketplace pays without cross-border fee. This is a legacy factor of Currenxie's early entry into this niche (2014), which is not replicated by new entrants without equivalent direct-integration work.
Post-Wirecard and HKMA scrutiny
Like Statrys, Currenxie operates under HKMA-enhanced MSO supervision post-Wirecard 2020: safeguarded funds, daily reconciliation, governance. Unlike Statrys, Currenxie does not have custodianship through DBS — funds are held in segregated accounts at several partner banks, which reduces single-bank risk but does not provide DBS-reputational bonus in bank statements.
