Who can apply
Visa-free transit is available to citizens of the following countries:
Documents
- Flight tickets for a route where Shanghai is an intermediate point, for example, Moscow (Russia) - Shanghai (China) - Tokyo (Japan)
- Hotel booking in Shanghai for the transit period
- Insurance for the transit period
- Passport valid for more than 3 months
Application procedure
- After arrival at the airport, follow the Visa-Free Transit signs
- Complete the 72/144-hour foreigner temporary entry and exit card
- Provide the required documents
Visa-free transit is processed free of charge.
Time counting starts from 00:01 of the day following the day of arrival and is no more than 6 days.
Conditions
During visa-free transit, traveling between different cities and leaving Shanghai territory is prohibited.
144-hour transit is also available in Nanjing, Hangzhou. 72-hour transit — in Xi'an, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin, Kunming, Wuhan, Xiamen, Chongqing, Dalian, Shenyang, Harbin.
