France Titre Talent: One 4-Year Status for Experts, Founders and Investors

Lawyer, Family Office

The titre talent (formerly passeport talent) is France’s multi-year residence permit for those the country counts as “talent”: qualified professionals, founders, investors, researchers and artists. The immigration law of 26 January 2024 consolidated the categories and simplified the track map, but the logic stands: one status of up to 4 years, no separate work permit, family included.

The Main Tracks

For employees — the qualified-worker track (a master’s-level degree or experience plus a salary above a SMIC-linked threshold). For founders — the French Tech Visa: acceptance into an accredited incubator/accelerator or recognition of the project as innovative — with no minimum capital. For investors — direct economic investment from €300,000 (personally or via a company, with job commitments). Plus researcher (a hosting agreement with a university or lab) and artistic tracks.

Family and Horizon

The spouse and children receive the “famille” status simultaneously, skipping family-reunification procedures; the spouse works without restrictions. After 5 years of residence the resident card opens up, then citizenship (with language and integration). Understand the nature of the status: it is for living in France, not a dormant residency — real presence is expected.

Where the Route Wins

The French track wins when the family genuinely relocates to Europe: one status for everyone, 4 years without renewals, schools and infrastructure, a clear EU-citizenship horizon. For a backup base without relocation, look instead at the Greek or Portuguese golden visas — they require no presence.
