## Concept

Techcombank Private is the top tier of a three-level membership ladder inside Techcombank's Retail Banking Group: Inspire → Priority → Private, with the Techcombank OneU loyalty programme layered on top. Private & Priority Banking is headed by Nguyen The Anh, according to published reports; the Retail Banking Group by Nguyen Anh Tuan, according to published reports. The group CEO is Dr. Jens Lottner (first appointed 18 August 2020; reappointed for a second 2025–2030 term with SBV approval), and the chairman is co-founder Ho Hung Anh.

The bank reports wealth and affluent AUM of more than VND 428tn (~US$16bn) and claims a share of over 50% of Vietnam's affluent segment — its own figure carried by sponsored press (Global Finance/VIR), not independently audited. FY2025 group results: pre-tax profit VND 32.5tn (+18.2%), total assets VND 1,192tn, CASA 40.4%, NPL 1.13%, roughly 18m customers. Techcombank ranks #1 on ROA (2.39%) and is the most profitable purely private (non-state) bank in Vietnam, while standing around seventh by total assets — behind the big four state banks, MB and VPBank — so "largest private bank" is accurate by profit and efficiency, not by assets.

## History and evolution

- **27 September 1993** — founded in Hanoi by Vietnamese businessmen who had returned from Russia.
- **2005–2008** — HSBC built a 20% stake, the first foreign 20% holding in a Vietnamese bank, under a special approval.
- **2017** — HSBC exited.
- **March 2018** — Warburg Pincus invested US$370m.
- **April 2018** — the IPO raised US$922m, then Vietnam's largest.
- **4 June 2018** — listed on HOSE under the ticker TCB.
- **2021** — the wealth push begins; the first Head of Private & Priority is hired from Maybank.
- **~2023** — the Private tier is formalised.
- **October 2024** — the Manulife exclusive partnership is terminated.
- **2025** — the TCBS IPO and the launch of Techcom Life.
- **2026** — a new 2026–2030 strategy with an "agent-operated bank" AI direction; Techcombank was the first financial institution to apply for a crypto-exchange licence under Vietnam's pilot regime, according to published reports.
> 🍓 Deposits are insured by the Deposit Insurance of Vietnam (DIV): up to VND 125m per depositor per institution (principal plus interest), in force since 12 December 2021 and still current as of October 2026; more than 92% of depositors are covered in full. In February 2026 the SBV drafted a rise of the cap to VND 350m under the new Deposit Insurance Law 111/2025 — pending, not yet effective, according to published reports.

## Regulation

Techcombank operates under a State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) licence; Techcom Securities is supervised by the State Securities Commission (SSC). Ratings: S&P BB (upgraded August 2025) and Fitch BB-/Positive (November 2025). On 13 February 2026 the SSC fined TCBS VND 275m for distributing a Techcom Capital ETF without prior report and approval, according to published reports. The criminal cases involving Tan Hoang Minh and Van Thinh Phat/SCB should be distinguished from the market effects on Techcombank and its investment products. TCBS reported TCBF assets of about [VND20tn at 30 September 2022](https://www.tcbs.com.vn/quan-he-ndt-chi-tiet?url=tcbs-cung-chien-luoc-wealthtech-9-thang-2022-loi-nhuan-vuot-2-700-ty-ong-at-81-ke-hoach-nam) and [VND9.2tn at year-end](https://www.tcbs.com.vn/documents/10181/0/Final%2BEng_BCTN%2BTCBS%2B2022.pdf); these are fund assets, not the return per unit. In its [FY2024 earnings call](https://techcombank.com/content/dam/techcombank/public-site/documents/fy2024-transcript-formatted.pdf), Techcombank also described a bancassurance confidence shock following Van Thinh Phat/SCB and said it had been affected less than peers. In May 2026 TCB publicly affirmed it had not breached the SBV deposit-rate cap amid sector-wide scrutiny.

## Source of wealth

Typical clients are entrepreneurs and SME owners, real-estate fortunes, professionals, tech-sector wealth, and overseas Vietnamese. As everywhere in private banking, onboarding involves a [source of funds](https://wiki.private.law/source-of-funds) check.

> 💡 Thresholds are measured on a 3-month average: Inspire — from VND 200m in total assets, according to official information; Priority — from VND 1bn, according to official information; Private — AUM from VND 23bn (~US$900k) or TRV from VND 25bn, according to published reports; the official T&Cs deliberately do not publish the numbers, and the launch framing was net assets over US$1m. The commonly assumed "VND 10bn" figure is not current.

## Who it serves

The tier targets high-net-worth clients in Vietnam — the launch framing was net assets above US$1m. It is a domestic proposition: the group has no international presence and all operations are inside Vietnam.

## Services

- a dedicated Private Client Relationship Manager backed by a central Chief Investment Office ("wealth architects");
- an advisory-led model with investments via TCBS (brokerage, corporate bonds, ETFs and structured products) and Techcom Capital funds;
- Lombard-style credit;
- a Private Visa Infinite card with a limit of up to VND 10bn;
- estate and legacy planning, Family Banking, and a Next-Gen education programme with VinUni;
- private lounges at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports.
Private-credit offerings for HNW clients are planned for 2026. Bancassurance has pivoted: the exclusive Manulife partnership (since 2017) was terminated on 14 October 2024 with VND 1.8tn compensation and replaced by in-house Techcom Life (distributed at TCB branches from December 2025).

## Entities

| Jurisdiction | Legal entity | Form and supervision | Role |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Vietnam | Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank) | Bank, SBV-licensed; HOSE-listed, TCB, 4 June 2018 | Head bank: deposits, lending, payments, private banking |
| Vietnam | Techcom Securities JSC (TCBS) | Broker under SSC supervision; September 2025 IPO raised VND 10.8tn; listed as TCX on 21 October 2025; TCB retains 79.82% | Brokerage, bonds, ETFs, structured products |
| Vietnam | Techcom Capital JSC | Fund management company | The de facto AMC of the group |
| Vietnam | Techcom Life Insurance | Life insurer; licensed July 2025, launched 23 September 2025 | Life insurance and legacy planning |
| Vietnam | Techcom Insurance | Non-life insurer | Property and general insurance |
| Outside Vietnam | — | No international presence (no foreign branches or representative offices identified) | All operations are domestic |

## Strengths

- \#1 ROA (2.39%) among Vietnamese banks and the country's most profitable purely private bank;
- a complete in-house ecosystem: bank + broker + AMC + insurers;
- a claimed share of over 50% of the affluent segment (the bank's own figure, not independently audited);
- moderate foreign ownership (~22.5% against the 30% legal cap).
## Where it falls short

- no foreign offices — cross-border needs require an international bank;
- local currency and jurisdiction — Vietnamese FX and country risk;
- the Private threshold (~VND 23–25bn, reported) is out of reach for the early-affluent segment;
- key wealth metrics are not independently audited.
Ownership: Masan Group is the largest institutional holder at 14.885%; foreign ownership is self-capped at ~22.5%, leaving ~1.9% of room under the 30% legal cap. In August 2026 Reuters reported that BNP Paribas and KB Kookmin were in separate talks for a stake of at least 15% (~US$2bn); BNP denied plans and KB said there were no specific negotiations — this remains reported and unconfirmed.

## Q/A

### What is the entry threshold for Techcombank Private?

Reportedly AUM from VND 23bn (~US$900k) or TRV from VND 25bn; the official terms deliberately do not publish numbers. The commonly cited "VND 10bn" figure is outdated.

### Are deposits insured?

Yes. The Deposit Insurance of Vietnam covers up to VND 125m per depositor per institution, including interest; more than 92% of depositors are covered in full. A draft rise to VND 350m (Law 111/2025) is not yet in force.

### Does Techcombank have offices abroad?

No. No international presence — foreign branches or representative offices — has been identified; the group's operations are entirely within Vietnam.

### Was the bank involved in the 2022 bond-market crisis?

### Who owns Techcombank?

Masan Group is the largest institutional shareholder at 14.885%; foreign ownership is self-capped at about 22.5% under the 30% legal limit. 2026 reports of talks with BNP Paribas and KB Kookmin remain unconfirmed by the parties.
