It goes further than a published ranking or a general banks overview: a league table tells you which institution is large or well-rated, but not which one will actually open and hold your account given your residence, structure, and source of funds. What matters is the bank that fits the specific relationship you need, today. We update the file far more often than it would make sense to maintain inside the wiki. Ownership shifts constantly: UBS absorbed Credit Suisse in 2023, RBC took over HSBC Canada in 2024, and Nationwide completed its purchase of Virgin Money the same year. Rules move just as often: Hong Kong, for one, raised its deposit-protection ceiling to [HK$800,000](https://www.hkma.gov.hk/eng/news-and-media/press-releases/2024/10/20241001-3/) in October 2024. Banks also quietly gain and lose the ability to serve particular client categories, which rarely reaches the headlines. Therefore, we maintain the map as a separate file and send it by email upon request. > 🧭 We deliberately avoid publishing a 'best banks' table. Rankings travel badly across borders: an institution that suits a Singapore holding company may decline a private client living elsewhere, and a bank that accepts one source of funds will refuse another. The file answers a narrower, more useful question: which banks realistically fit this profile, this residence, and this purpose, as things stand now. ## What's in the Map > 🔗 **Related** > [private banking](https://wiki.private.law/en/private-banking) · [family office](https://wiki.private.law/en/family-office) For each bank in the file: - legal entity, regulator, deposit insurance with current limit; - activity type (commercial, corporate, investment, private, custody, universal)—with explanation of what specific products the institution offers; - minimum AuM thresholds for different relationship levels (from regular account to private banking and family office); - availability of international services for non-residents and their terms; - KYC specifics and most common reasons for rejection; - history of working with clients from your jurisdiction (where applicable and publicly known); - our internal assessment based on a combination of factors. The file is also organised by scenario, since the shortlist for one need rarely matches another: a company operating account, a corporate reserve, a private savings account, private banking for UHNW clients, custody for portfolio assets, and a bank for a family office. > ⚙️ 'Current limit' earns its place in that list. Deposit-protection caps keep moving: the EU stands at €100,000, the UK at £85,000, the United States at $250,000 under the FDIC, [Singapore at S$100,000](https://www.sdic.org.sg/) after its 2024 increase, and Hong Kong at HK$800,000 since October 2024. The map carries the figure that applies on the day we send it, not the one that was correct two years ago. ## Who Receives It The map is free. After filling out the form, a consultant sends the file along with a brief note—which banks typically fit the profile from your request. Without a task description, the map becomes a list without context. With a description—we can immediately indicate in the email two or three banks that make sense to consider first. > 🍓 Bank selection comes down to fit and timing. The map turns the vague question 'which bank is best?' into a precise one: which bank will take this client, for this purpose, under the rules in force today. The note we send back names the two or three credible answers, so the first call already starts from a shortlist.
